10:20 pm - Updating after all this time....
And what do you get? A meme. Courtesy, as all good music memes, of [info]aries11.

1. List your top five favorite musical artists.
2. List your top five favorite songs from each artist.
3. Tag five people to do the same.

I should add that these are in no particular order, by the way. And really more subject to my current whim than permanent taste.

Bruce Springsteen
1. The Promise
2. Born to Run
3. Murder Incorporated
4. Thunder Road
5. The River

The Killers
1. Romeo and Juliet (I know it's not technically theirs, but it's a brilliant song.)
2. Read My Mind
3. When You Were Young
4. Mr. Brightside
5. I'm calling a tie between "All These Things That I've Done" and "All the Pretty Faces"

U2
1. One (haha)
2. Angel of Harlem
3. With or Without You
4. Original of the Species
5. Acrobat

Jack's Mannequin
1. Last Straw
2. Katie
3. The Mixed Tape
4. Rescued
5. Kill the Messenger

Jimi Hendrix
1. Bold as Love
2. All Along the Watchtower
3. The Wind Cries Mary
4. Castles Made of Sand
5. Tie: "Purple Haze" and "Hey Joe"

Honorable mention:
The Beatles, who only lose out because I haven't been listening to them much lately
Graham Colton [Band], who loses out because he's about level with JM and I wanted to fit in Hendrix

Tagging:
1. [info]darkleviathan
2. [info]stevenharper
3. [info]richardrahl
4. [info]rhiannon383
5. [info]kaidadarcy

Do it or not. Up to you.

I'd write a real update right now if it weren't for being exhausted from throwing a kick-ass Valentine's party last night and all the homework I'm not doing right now. On that note, who knew 12 credits (all music classes) could kick my butt more than 18 could? Anyway, things are good, but really crazy lately... I'll write more once things calm down a bit. For real this time. Promise.

5 - "Something is bound to give; I can feel it coming, I think I know what it is" - U2, "Kite"

20 - "Billy's leaving today, don't know where he's going" - James Blunt, "Billy"

In other news, it's amazing how much better a little mashed potatoes, cream gravy, and okra slime can make me feel.

10:29 pm - It's official - I'm a music meme whore.
Stolen from [info]aries11, as always.

Step 1: Put your iTunes or equivalent on random.
Step 2: Post the first line from the first 20 songs that play, no matter how embarassing.
Step 4: Bold out the songs when someone guesses correctly.
Step 5: Looking them up on Google or any other search engine is CHEATING!

1 - "Your scars were still showing when I first met you, babe"
2 - "I had a dream our love would last forever; I had a dream, tonight that dream comes true"
3 - "It is the evening of the day; I sit and watch the children play" - The Rolling Stones, "As Tears Go By", guessed by [info]stevenharper

20 - "Billy's leaving today, don't know where he's going"

I gave y'all a little more than the first line because some of these songs are pretty obscure. That said - if nobody gets 10, 11, or 14, you're all off my f-list. I wouldn't push my luck with 6 either. :-p

06:53 pm - Promised I'd do this a while ago...
From [info]aries11:
01: comment here asking for a letter and I'll give you one
02: post your TOP 5 songs that begin with that letter along with these instructions
03: My letter was L.

(I should add that these aren't ranked so much as in the order I thought of them.)

1) "Layla" - Derek and the Dominoes
2) "Losing My Touch" - The Rolling Stones
3) "Last Straw" - Jack's Mannequin
4) "Let It Be" - The Beatles
5) "Look What You've Done" - JET

And because I'm indecisive and want to prove that L wasn't that hard after all... )

...ok, so I had to consult the iPod to get a few. Still plenty of good "L" songs though, right?

Guess I could take this opportunity to make an update... Have tendinitis. Really bad. I mean REALLY bad. Shouldn't be typing much right now, especially since my painkiller is wearing off. The whole thing is pissing me off, because it's been about a month since it started and it hasn't gotten any better at all. I can hardly play piano with my left hand (which THRILLS my piano teachers, let me tell you), I have to fake piccolo after 15 minutes, I have screaming pain after exams and the long-ass homework assignments my music history prof is so fond of, and I'm constantly tied to a bottle of prescription ibuprofen. Not even fun painkillers. Ibuprofen. I should at least be getting some Vicodin out of this deal. This is what happens when you get all your drugs from a parent who knows your addictive tendencies all too well. hmph.

Wow, this is turning into a big fat rant. Sorry. All I want is a weekend off. I mean really off, with nothing to do. No band, no SAT classes to teach, no Mortar Board projects - nothing. It's been 4 weeks since I last had one, and it's looking like 3 more before I finally get there. Ugghhhhh... for one of the few times in my life, I'll freely admit that I'm completely overextended right now. Learning 6 weeks worth of symbolic logic in roughly 8 hours the other night didn't really help things any... this is why we don't completely ignore our schoolwork till the night before an exam, kids. Especially when we still haven't recovered from the previous weekend's band trip. On the bright side, teaching all day on Sundays and Thursday nights means I should have a big fat paycheck from the Princeton Review next month, which will be nice for a change. :o)

Hmmm, so much negativity... what are some good things that have been going on? I guess I'll just list some highlights of the past month or so:
*Jack's Mannequin concert in September - freakin' AWESOME. Even if it was overrun with annoying teenyboppers and emo kids... only Andrew McMahon could draw that mix. I wanna have his punk rock babies.
*Pitt football's doing well - 5-1 baby.
*Most of our band shows have been really good. The problem is that there's been so damn many of them.
*Niagara Falls this weekend was way fun. Syracuse not so much, but Niagara was good. I heart Canada. It's like America, but with gun control, smoking bans, and way more legal fun stuff. I can't believe I didn't think of ordering absinthe at the bar.
*Mortar Board, much to my surprise, is actually turning out to be fairly active and successful, given what we were left with from last year. My officers and a small but loyal core group of members are really dedicated and fun. We might actually get some things accomplished this year, which will make me endlessly happy.
*I'm totally in love with the new Killers CD.
*Um, I like Environmental Politics?
*Oh, I have a new baby nephew! His name is Keegan, he was born September 29th, and apparently he's ridiculously cute (he's in Texas, so I haven't seen him yet). And my sister's decided to move up here, so I'll get to play with him all the time. :-)
*My mom is finally on her way back from Texas after about a month (at least till they go back to help my sister move). And she's bringing two puppies with her.

Aaaaand it's time for more pill-popping. I'll probably update again after I've been through physical therapy for my tendinitis and rehab for my painkiller addiction. Byyyyeeeeeee.

As always, stolen from [info]aries11 - maybe I'm only posting because I like the result.

You Are a Phoenix

Driven and ambitious, you tend to acquire material success easily.
You have grand schemes - both for your own life and for changing the whole world.
You are a great leader, and you have no problem taking the reins.
However, you aren't all business. You also have great talents for performing and visual arts.

EDIT: I actually fixed a spelling error. In a meme. Clearly I have issues.

04:55 pm - I think I might be indecisive
Well that extra userpic space didn't last long. I now have 14 of 15 used up, and the only reason I have one left is because there's about 6 I saved and can't decide which one to use. [info]enriana makes amazingness (thanks [info]aries11!).

I meant to go home hours ago (I'm in Pittsburgh), but first I got lazy, then I got caught up in all this uncleared account/missing member crap that got dumped in my lap when I became president of Mortar Board, and now I may or may not be meeting my parents in Cranberry for my dad's birthday dinner. Still waiting to hear back, still here, and still taking deep breaths from my MB email frenzy earlier.

It's a good thing the ladies in the Mortar Board national office are so nice. *headdesk*

12:08 pm - I sold out for more userpics
I found an awesome new icon and had to have it. Oops, no more space! So now I've upgraded to a Plus account and agreed to have my journal covered in ads I don't care about just to get more userpics. I'm such a cheap LJ whore. All this and I hardly ever update. :op

Lots of new stuff going on right now. I can't wait for school to start - I think it's gonna be a good year. Right now I'm pretty much obsessed with making Mortar Board work. And of course, PittBand is right around the corner. :-) No one knows what this year will bring, but for one of the few times in my life, I feel like change is good.

Hmmm, so much to talk about I don't even know where to begin. Oh well, I need a shower anyway, haha. Later!

(Click here to post your own answers for this meme.)

I miss somebody right now. × I don't watch much TV these days. I own lots of books.
I wear glasses or contact lenses. × I love to play video games. × I've tried marijuana.
× I've watched porn movies. × I have been the psycho-ex in a past relationship.  (Well, that's debatable...) I believe honesty is usually the best policy.
I curse sometimes. I have changed a lot mentally over the last year. × I carry my knife/razor everywhere with me.

01:58 am - Stolen from [info]aries11 because I'm procrastinating and it looks like fun
The Music Survey.
Answer all of these questions with a lyric from a song.

1.) Are you male or female?
She's a girl in her world
She's moving as fast as she goes
Loves her mom and her dad
The only secure that she knows

2) Describe your neighborhood:
It's just that everywhere I go
All the buildings know your name like
Photographic memories of love
Steel and granite reminders
The city calls your name and I can't move on

3.) How do you look?:
La lune trop bleme
Pose un diademe
Sur tes cheveux roux

4.) If you could say something to the person you like, what would it be?:
Do, do ya, do ya, do ya wanna
Wanna go
Where I've never let you before?

5.) Where do you wish you were right now?:
Somewhere there's only lovers left alive

6.) What would you say to your best friend?:
When the night just cuts you through
When the dream is lost to you
When you're worried and confused
I will give you my heart, give you my shoulder

7.) Any words of wisdom:
And remember the truth that once was spoken
To love another person is to see the face of God

8.) What do you wish you were doing right now?:
Hey what else can we do now?
Except roll down the window
And let the wind blow back your hair
Well the night's busting open
And these two lanes will take us anywhere

9.) What do you think of drugs and alcohol?:
So please hand me the bottle
I think I'm lonely now
And please give me direction
I think the hurt set in
And I don't feel nothin'

10.) If you could say one thing to your enemy, what would it be?:
Sexy Sadie, you'll get yours yet
However big you think you are
However big you think you are
Sexy Sadie, oh, you'll get yours yet

11.) What do you usually do on Friday nights?:
I know what you want
I'm gonna take you to a midnight show tonight
If you can keep a secret
I've got a blanket in the backseat on my mind

12.) Are you for world peace?:
Heaven on Earth, we need it now
I'm sick of all of this hanging around
Sick of sorrow, sick of the pain
I'm sick of hearing again and again
That there's gonna be
Peace on Earth[...]
Jesus can you take the time
To throw a drowning man a line?
Peace on Earth

13.) What do you think about school?:
Everyone knows I'm in over my head, over my head...

14.) How do you feel right now?:
Now she's walking through the clouds
With a circus mind that's running wild
Butterflies and zebras and moonbeams and fairy tales
All she ever thinks about is riding with the wind

15.) Any closing words?:
I'm not wearing underwear today
No I'm not wearing underwear today
Not that you probably care
Much about my underwear
Still nonetheless I gotta say
That I'm not wearing underwear to-daaaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!!

02:18 am - Somehow the "OH YEAH!!!!" icon is completely appropriate tonight
Started spring semester today. And what a way to kick it off...

NCAA basketball: Pitt defeats Notre Dame 100-97 in double overtime.

NCAA football: Down 38-33 with 19 seconds left, Texas scores a touchdown and makes a 2-point conversion to win the Rose Bowl 41-38.

Two of the best, most nerve-wracking games I've ever seen all in one night. Absolutely freaking amazing. This is the best college sports day ever. :0)

Hmmmm, guess I should write some of the stuff I need to catch up on from break. Lemme think... This semester's schedule isn't too bad. 18 credits, but it's mostly music stuff so at least I'll be more or less interested:
MUSIC 0224 History of Western Music Since 1750 M W 3:00-4:15
MUSIC 0419 Theory 4 M W F 11:00-11:50
MUSIC 0420 Musicianship 4 T Th 11:00-11:50
MUSIC 0533 Jazz Piano (lesson) T 3:15-4:00
MUSIC 0614 Women's Chorale M W 4:00-5:30
MUSIC 1242 Major Composer (Beethoven) T Th 4:00-5:15
PHIL 0300 Intro to Ethics T Th 10:00-10:50
PHIL 0300 Intro to Ethics Recitation Th 3:00-3:50
PS 0650 Politics and Liberal Democracy T Th 1:00-2:15
Hah, I'm such a slacker. And how proud am I of myself for having no 9 AM classes for the first time ever? Awesome. Tuesdays and Thursdays may kinda suck though.

And all this school talk reminds me... )

Tons of fun stuff to cover from break... another time. It's late. I have my early class tomorrow (and by early, I mean 10:00 :-P). And the Leno rerun I was half-watching just got interrupted by a Days of Our Lives rerun without warning. Yuck. So one last time before bed...

HAIL TO PITT/HOOK 'EM HORNS!!!!!!

11:14 pm - another finals procrastination entry
Dear Santa,
I've tried to be good this year, I really have. And I think I did a pretty decent job. But ya gotta have your fun too, right? Anyway, I know you're really busy and all, but I just thought I'd take this opportunity to get in touch and see what's up and do the whole wish list thing and all.

All I want for Christmas is an A in something besides Women's Chorale and marching band.

Thanks.
Much love,
Amanda

*sigh* day one over. philosophy paper - done. not great, but done. probably a b+ or b at worst... i guess i shouldn't really complain, seeing as i hadn't actually exactly read the Rawls book I was writing on. but i think my grade in there is borderline (A- on one paper, A on the 2nd, and probably not great participation) and it would be really nice to swing an A. intelligent life final - over. not great, but not nearly as bad as I thought it would be, or as it should've been, considering i've gone to lecture once in the past month and didn't even get the whole way through the study guide. better than the last exam. got all my back assignments and some extra credit turned in afterwards too. woot. yeah, i could've done without falling asleep for 3 1/2 hours this morning, but as usual, i somehow managed to half-ass my way through it and it's all over, so no point in worrying about it.

so all that's left is a theory exam and my 2 string quartet variations. i've never been so happy to work on music theory in my life. i never thought i'd hear myself say that. and considering my exam is at 8:00 AM (ugh) and my score is due when i go in, i'm not working nearly as hard as i should be. oh well, it should only take a couple of hours. and sleep is overrated anyway, right?

in the midst of all my finals-induced ranting and silliness, i failed to mention that Eric totaled his car the other day. he was trying to drive to school through the 4 inches of snow covering Smalls Ferry Rd. (because north beaver township is awesome at road maintenance that way) and lost control, went head-on into a ditch, flipped the jeep a couple of times, and landed right-side up 6 inches from a utility pole. he's okay, but definitely really lucky. puts things into perspective - all this time i'm whining about finals, when i could be at one of my best friends' funerals instead. so i should really quit bitching. apparently mr. hodge came along and rescued him, hahaha.

i'll done with this semester in less than 11 hours. yessssssss!

which reminds me - who doesn't have anything important on wednesday that wants to get really really raging drunk with me tomorrow night? ;o)
